FAQS
1. Can Katie at Hope be my Primary Care Clinician?
Health consulting and coaching does not replace your primary or specialist medical providers. I can be an addition to your team.
2. Can I use my medical insurance for my visits or for my labs?
Currently my services are fee for service or a retainer package payment. Additional recommendations, such as labs and/or supplements most third parties I use participate in clients being able to utilize their insurance, FSA and HSA accounts. In some circumstances I can also utilize your insurance companies preferred lab and use appropriate ICD10 coding. Specialized labs can also sometimes utilize insurance with superbills that I can provide. Many labs are more affordable than your insurance priced labs, with the exception of specific hormonal and stool testing.
If you are utilizing my services for wellness coaching, you can use your HSA/FSA card usually for that although you may require a letter of recommendation by your PCP to support that for the IRS. Otherwise my visit fees are out of pocket.
3. How does HOPE conduct visits?
I currently am conducting telehealth and in-person visits at this time. Reiki is in person, location is Ashburn, VA. Coming February 13, 2025 I will have in person office hours for visits and Reiki, please see services and scheduling on my website. I do all my scheduling, billing and documenting through Practice Better EMR, where you as the patient/client have access and your own patient portal.
4. Can HOPE prescribe me medications?
If you reside in the state of Virginia and I feel a pharmacotherapy is warranted I can practice autonomously and prescribe medications. I also can collaborate with your primary care to encourage appropriate follow up and prescribing. My focus is a holistic approach. I can work with you to try to get you off many of your pharmacotherapy and focus on the root cause of the problem and correct that problem instead of solely relying on pharmacotherapy alone.
5. Can HOPE refer me to specialists?
If you reside in Virginia, yes I can refer to an extent in the setting of the limitations of a telehealth visit. I can educate you and provide you with specialist recommendations you can also discuss with your primary care so you can be a strong advocate for your health.
If you are seeing me during my in office hours I am able to conduct a physical examination and have more objective data to guide me into the right referral for you.
6. What are the benefits of working with a health consultant and coach who is medically trained and certified?
As a board certified Nurse Practitioner I come with the training, experience, and knowledge to truly help you not only holistically but with the educational backbone of evidence-based practice. I understand and know the pathophysiology of illness, understand how to treat and cure many illnesses. My understanding of what works for some and not for others is much wider than a health coach with no additional training in extensive experience in the field of medicine and functional nutrition. I am able to emotionally, physically and mentally coach you to a better you.
I have helped men and woman navigate appropriate, safe, evidence-based, supplementation and found them to be harming themselves with how they are self-managing their "natural" supplements.
As a consultant I am able to review your case and help provide you with further education and counseling on how to advocate for yourself while working with your insurance based health team, I can also collaborate with your current medical team.
7. What are HOPE's fees?
I discuss my fees for the 3-month retainer program privately with clients. I need to ensure we will work well together and that you understand the time needed to succeed. My services for a personalized plan is an investment that is paid as a retainer package up front. I do not currently offer payment plans. I additionally offer fee for service consultations that many utilize for better insight into their health to better educate them on how to navigate their health with their current health provider team. Send me an email on inquiries for pricing for individual assessments and follow up visits at [email protected] or click on schedule now and you will be directed to my EMR and patient self-scheduler where you can see the fees for single visit fees or holistic weight loss management fees.
8. What is the time commitment for a 3-month package?
I feel it is fair to openly expect clients to work on their modifications I recommend on a daily basis. The time may vary for everyone, but including weekly check ins and visits, one would need to expect to invest a minimum of 3-5 hours a week of their time consciously making an effort in changing behaviors to improve health. There is one 60 minute weekly follow up via telehealth, more visits upon request for a discounted fee. Additionally, emails twice a week as additional check ins. I do a lot of work outside of our visits working on you and your plan to ensure we get the results you need.
9. Is Katie at HOPE available on call for any emergencies-emotional/mental/physical counseling?
At this time, Katie is not available 24/7 for such calls. If you feel you are having an emergency, please dial 911 or go to your nearest emergency room/urgent care. If you are having a non-urgent medical matter, you can reach out to your primary care clinician. Please remember, HOPE does not replace your primary care provider.
10. Do you see clients outside of the state of Virginia?
Yes, I can see people outside the state of Virginia as a wellness consultant and wellness coach, and to help with lifestyle modification and yes even for weight consultations. I work with a physician service who can help order labs in your state if that is helpful for your wellness plan.
10. Your website has a heavy emphasis on patient's with autoimmune conditions, can you see me if I do not have an autoimmune condition?
Absolutely! My philosophy on optimizing an individual's health is to get to the root cause of whatever your ailment is. I have many busy clients who do not have autoimmunity, but are needing help with overall health, sleep, weight loss, stress management, metabolic syndromes, chronic inflammation, and I advise and coach them on how to live a healthier life. I start by focusing on what you want and how we can achieve that.
